Colossal Colon Tour

Photograph provided by the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation
In an effort to educate the public on colorectal cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment, the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation has created the Colossal Colon Tour. This family-friendly 20-city tour will launch in March 2003 and end in October 2003. The Colossal Colon experience will be enhanced by 10 interactive educational stations that explain the colon and its function and provide information on colorectal cancer prevention, screening, and treatment.

The Colossal Colon is a 40-foot long, four-foot high replica of a human colon that visitors can either crawl through or view through windows in order to see healthy colon tissue, colon disease, polyps, and various stages of colon cancer. Each stop on the tour also will feature educational kiosks, exercise and healthy eating demonstrations, celebrity appearances, and contests.

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. In recognition of this, we have included a number of articles pertaining to the prevention and early detection of this malignancy that we think you will find useful. There are over 147,000 new cases and 57,000 deaths annually from this disease in the US alone. Colorectal cancer is one of the most preventable of all cancers. Talk to your physician about your screening options and how you can decrease your risk of developing this disease.
